Toshiba 50L2200U | Still a Top Buy? | Our review - 2013

Toshiba 50L2200U Not Big on Aesthetics

Whatever comes off the drawing board in today’s technological world appears to come from outer space, or at least nowhere near our own planet. Savvy designs and odd shapes seem to defy logic. The Toshiba 50L2200U, on the other hand, belongs to the other side of the equation, antique-looking and boring – yawn! However, just before you decide to nod off on us, there are a few goody bags available in this model. Firstly for a 50” LED, the Toshiba 50L2200U best buy stands at roughly $500, which is a decent price to pay for what you get. For those of you that care much about the Toshiba 50L2200U dimensions it measures 49.2” x 11.8” x 30.5” with stand and weighs in at 48.5lbs.

Features are an Unknown Entity

Ok, we are still in shock mode over the lack of appeal but there are some features which earn some bragging rights for the Toshiba 50L2200U. Firstly, it comes fully HD enabled, all 1080p of it. Secondly, it comes equipped with 2-way port speakers, which is complemented by the Audyssey Premium Sound Suite, which allows a Dynamic Volume setting, to change and control loud and low noises. Lastly, you can expect to enjoy the New Aero Design, which we are still looking to discover! However, not all hope is lost as the LED backlighting beneath the LCD panel, offers a deeper tone, due to the Toshiba 50L2200U edge lit technology. One last hoorah can be found in the Autoview function, which allows you to find the right ambience and balance between the light within the room and the light output being emitted by the Toshiba 50L2200U. One worrying aspect of this TV, though, is that it has refresh rate of 60Hz, which makes it the slowest TV we have ever tested! You will find 2 HDMI ports, 1 USB port and 1 component input. No 3D available, which we shan’t argue about!

Accessibility to Ports Precarious

The Toshiba 50L2200U does not have a swivel base, which makes accessing the rear end of the TV rather difficult. Obviously if you are geared up to plug and play multiple gadgets you would want this to be straightforward and less concealed than this particular model. To have an idea what you are up against and to ensure that you get the settings right the first time around, we recommend that you have a peek at the user guide here.

Many Positive Aspects Outweigh the Less Positive Ones

Whilst we may have given you the impression that not all is rosy on the Toshiba 50L2200U front, we must admit that this model obeys its every command and does its job just as any faithful dog would do towards its master. The less appealing nature of the Toshiba 50L2200U and accompanying remote control should not deter you from enjoying an LED with quality comparable to plasma at a fraction of the price. The picture and colours offer more than you bargain for and the sound is decent enough to decipher. The contrast and black levels are top of the range and the angled view cannot be compared to a plasma but still prove to be excellent when challenged by most other LED’s. Even though we did point out that the refresh rate of 60Hz was the lowest we had tested, this does not affect the overall viewing experience and performance and is barely noticeable, except for very fast movements, which are hardly visible. Looking at Toshiba 50L2200U reviews online, we could not help notice the amount of satisfied users and we shall join the chorus in recommending it as a darn good buy!
